Question:

Why should I have outdoor lighting installed in my home?
I already have a light next to my front door.

Answer:

While front door lights are standard on all homes these days, they provide light only to the area around the door. A lot of times they can be blinding to people approaching the door and since most break in’s do not occur at the front door they offer very little security to the rest of the house. Outdoor lighting offers a lot more flexabiliy on where to light, what to light and when to light.

Question:

I can just go to the local hardware store and purchase solar lights and install them myself?

Answer:

Sure you can, but just remember that solar lights need sunlight. This limits where they can be installed. During the fall and winter months when we have less sunlight, the solar lights have a problem. If there is not enought sun to charge the batteries in the fixture, the batteries will eventualy die and the fixture will need to be replaced. (Sorry No lifetime warranty) The other issue is that they do not put out enough light for most applications.

Question:

How much does it cost to have outdoor lighting installed?

Answer:

It really depends on the light fixtures that are used and the complexity of the install.
Most installations cost start at around $1500.00.

Question:

What are the advantages/disadvantages of installing an LED system?

Answer:

LED lights require 70-80% less power to operate. They also put out a lot less heat than your standard bulbs. LED’s have no filament so the bulbs last a lot longer. Installing an LED system can save you money on your power bills and bulb replacement cost.
